Pontius Pilate and Herod steal show in Jesus Christ Superstar
Salt City Center’s fifth annual Jesus Christ Superstar earns standing ovation as Pontius Pilate and Herod deliver show stopping moments. Robert Brown as Christ shows strength in rage and Gethsemane but falters in gentler scenes. Jacque Washington shines as Mary Magdalene. Judas, sung by John Barmonde, struggles with intensity and control. Frank Fiumano’s Pilate delivers chilling, sympathetic turns. Overall strong chorus and choreography salvage a flawed yet powerful production.
