Homicide Investigation Under Way in Eastwood

Nation's oldest veteran John Painter dies at 112

John Painter, believed by the U S Department of Veterans Affairs to be the nation's oldest veteran, died at age 112 in Hermitage Springs Tennessee. He served in World War I in Europe as a horse soldier and later worked as a blacksmith. Painter received France's Legion of Honour and Tennessee declared his 112th birthday John Painter Day. Funeral attendance was expected from state officials and lawmakers.

Gulf War veterans still suffer lingering illnesses a decade later
