Mostly cloudy Saturday with a few flurries and low near 10. Sunday brings limited sun and a few flurries with a high around 26 and a low near 20. Monday turns partly sunny with possible flurries and a high about 32. Tuesday mixes clouds with sunshine and a high near 34 and low around 26.
Early morning crash on the Thruway near Warners involved a private tour bus and a westbound tractor trailer. About 50 bus passengers were on board traveling from Bridgeport Connecticut to Niagara Falls. At least 24 people were taken to area hospitals. conditions and identities were not released. Roads were snow covered and traffic diverted to one lane as debris and guardrail damage were reported. Local hospitals were alerted and some passengers were sheltered at the scene.
Crouse Hospital, a 566 bed facility, sought Chapter 11 protection after lenders refused more favorable terms. About 90 million in long term debt plus 20 million owed to suppliers plus aging construction costs. Credit analyst says debt is high but not extravagant as the hospital continues operations during reorganization.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton visits Upstate New York to push a seven bill economic package. The plan aims to lure high tech industries, aid small business, and create jobs with incentives costing up to 1.5 billion in year one. The tour begins in Plattsburgh then Buffalo Rochester and Syracuse.
New Process Gear re called 190 production workers back to the DeWitt plant starting Monday to meet rising demand for transfer cases transaxles and components used in cars trucks and SUVs. The division of New Venture Gear Inc employs about 3300 workers with many recalled after layoffs since October amid volatile market conditions.
