Merchants in Syracuse report little or no drop in sales as a two percent sales tax enters its second day. Storeowners contacted by the Heralds Journal say the tax has had minimal effect on business though hours and prep work cause confusion. Most believe it is too early to judge the full impact.
In Nashville Governor Jim McCord commutes Daniel Budzynski’s death sentence to 99 years in prison. The move follows a plea from Jeanne Lucas, a Pittsburgh schoolteacher, who asked for mercy for her childhood sweetheart. Budzynski had been set for execution by electric chair.
