North Syracuse school plan defeated by wide margins
Voters statewide rejected a 9 million renovation and expansion plan for the North Syracuse School District. The renovation measure failed 4727 to 2628, and a separate pool at the high school lost 4784 to 2562. Superintendent Thomas O Rourke lamented the loss, saying the plan is dead. The ballot was held at the district offices on Taft Road and marked a record for a school related issue. The plan would have overhauled 11 buildings with new classrooms and updated electrical, heating, roofs, and communications systems. The Long Range Facilities Planning Committee had argued the buildings were outdated for state demands.
