Slobodan Milosevic was imprisoned in The Hague as the first former head of state to be extradited for trial before the U.N. war crimes tribunal on charges of crimes against humanity. He is to be arraigned Tuesday and enter a plea, facing possible life in prison if convicted. The extradition sparked a political crisis in Yugoslavia, with Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić and Montenegrin allies resigning and signaling a cabinet collapse that could threaten federal unity and hasten elections.
Four year old Carnizah Knight died in a Syracuse bathtub while under care at Elmcrest Children’s Center. Police and medical examiner say she was left unattended despite facility policy. Knight had a seizure history and the death is treated as accidental as investigations continue.
