Norton Simon plan off after Esmark bid for buyout
Norton Simon Inc chairman David J. Mahoney scrapped plans to take the consumer products company private after Esmark Inc offered cash and stock valued at more than 780 million. Analysts say Esmark’s bid at best matches another offer by a New York investment firm, while a richer offer from a third suitor could surface. Esmark, a Chicago based diversified food products firm, could bid about 33 dollars a share for 51 percent.
