U.N. Population Fund funding and U S abortion policy debated
The U S mission to the United Nations notes a 38 million dollar annual contribution to the population fund but cannot state its share of the agency budget. A White House official says abortion policy is under review and a forthcoming proposal would bar federal funds for abortion and cut support to agencies involved, even if not using U S funds. The fund aids countries allowing first trimester abortion, including China Cuba Tunisia and Vietnam, with India also receiving aid under restrictions.
