Albany vows curb privacy in vans with new windows law
Governor Hugh Carey signed measures restricting on one way mirror windows on vehicles. The ban targets manufacturing selling and operating opaque window materials while exempting tinted glass. A 1984 refund option exists if opaque material is removed after police notice. Exceptions cover health sun protection. The package also tightens windshield requirements and tampers with term papers and utility refunds.

Legislature OKs three bills on hazardous waste control
ALBANY AP By bits and pieces the state Legislature moves to adopt stiffer penalties for illegal haulers and dumpers of toxic chemicals and tighter state control over hazardous waste management in New York. Final approval came for three measures while more bills await approval. The package seeks felonies for unlawful possession transportation or disposal of hazardous wastes with penalties up to seven years in prison and a $100000 fine. Additional bills would inventory all hazardous wastes in the state and establish waste exchanges and a short term management program for 14 million tons produced yearly. Government and business leaders support the plan though some Senate leaders remain cautious. The Assembly passed three measures banning certain high priority wastes from land burial and setting safe transportation and burning rules for hazardous wastes.
