Women Clubs Praised for Living Up to Postwar Promises
New York delegates at the General Federation of Women's Clubs 56th convention heard Miss Margaret A. Hickey of Ladies Home Journal praise clubs as a major force for informed opinion and action. She urged joint action and volunteer service, especially on education and housing, and called for better pay for teachers and improved school funds. The federation voted down a proposal to admit 100,000 European displaced persons yearly, amid debate over jobs and burdens on Americans.
