Thousand Islands oil spill near Alexandria Bay after barge crash
A barge strike near Mason Point in the Thousand Islands released more than 250000 gallons of heavy No 6 oil into the St Lawrence River. Coast Guard called it a major spill, halting 10 miles of commercial traffic on both shores as cleanup booms go in place with Canadian and U S crews assisting.

Madison County flooded after heavy rain and rock slide
Overnight heavy rains caused a rockslide that closed Route 13 below Chittenango Falls and flooded several homes. About 25 Chittenango volunteer firefighters removed debris by hand at dawn and reopened the highway by 7 30 am. No injuries were reported. Backup units from Cazenovia assisted. Limestone Creek flood in Manlius prompted public works checks, with limited damage anticipated. The weatherman warned of more rain tonight and tomorrow with an 80 percent chance.

Lottery Drawings In Albany Tuesday For Three October Pools
Three of last October's state lottery Grand Tier drawings will be held Tuesday in the Legislative Office Building. More than 600000 dollars will be awarded to 24 finalists across the Oct 2, Oct 9 and Oct 16 drawings with top prizes of 125000 dollars, 50000 dollars and 25000 dollars. Prizes double if a double up number matches. The drawings stem from a lottery suspended by Gov. Hugh Carey due to ticket print errors. Four other drawings remain unscheduled.

Pension reform gains support in Assembly and Senate
Albany reports growing Assembly backing for a pension reform bill approved in the Senate that would cut the $3.5 billion annual cost by 10 years. The bill, introduced by Sen.
