Barry withdraws Croton closing plan
Superintendent of Schools Barry withdrew yesterday against his better judgment a plan for closing Croton School. The Board adopted by 341 votes the open school policy allowing transfers to any district school with room. Dr. Kenneth Gale dissented citing integration concerns and potential exodus of high achievers from Croton. A Croton Parents Group and the Coordinating Committee boycotted the meeting and about a dozen protesters held a line outside the central offices.

Milk prices rise amid drought and higher Class 4 costs
Prices for Class 1 milk climbed to 5.12 per hundredweight in May, up from 4.58 previously, as drought reduces farm milk supply. The American Dairy Association and New York Dairy Council cite a 5.7 percent drop in total milk supply in May and 47 million pounds less idle milk than in 1965, driven by fewer dairy farmers and drought. In related notes, Croton schools face integration and closure debates, with plans for new programs, parent advisory groups, clergy discussions, and campus planning to gain community support.

Rezoning plan in Bellevue draws protests
A crowded Bellevue City Hall hearing before the Advisory Planning Commission focused on PRG Enterprises and others seeking a zone change from Residential A to Local Business A. Opponents led by Attorney Donald Roth argued the switch would lower property values and disrupt a valued residential area near Queque Avenue and Onondaga Boulevard.
