John J. Young of Onondaga County was elected Democratic national convention delegate at large and named an alternate for Chicago on August 13. He defeated Charles H. Keene for chairman amid intra party clashes led by Donald Salvetti of Solvay. unity talk followed but insurgent voters walked out.
