New York report: Fritz Kreisler, 71, renowned violinist and composer, remains in serious condition at Leroy Sanitarium after an emergency appendectomy Sunday. Doctors say a ruptured appendix caused peritonitis. he had shown improvement and was removed from critical condition yesterday, according to hospital officials.
Washington reports that permanent strike control legislation faces near-certain failure this session as Senator Murray calls for at least a year of study before drafting long-range labor laws. Southern lawmakers drop plans to press for permanent controls, even as factions rework Truman’s emergency bill.

Thomas leads Senate House conferees with a compromise that extends the law beyond July 1. House members show willingness to accept 19 but oppose younger ages. Conferees adjourn to Thursday to see if Senate accepts 19 as the compromise.
Justice Robert H. Jackson denied a report that he would resign as chief American prosecutor at Nuernberg. He said he would leave Nuernberg about July 15 for the United States because his work would be completed, but stressed this was not a resignation.
Bertram M. Campbell, who served 40 months in Sing Sing for forgeries later exonerated when another man confessed, received 115000 from New York State for humiliation loss of liberty and earnings. The Court of Claims called him a victim of a miscarriage of justice. Campbell, a Floral Park bookkeeper and former Wall Street clerk, was convicted in 1938 of forging two checks and sentenced to five to 10 years. He was paroled in 1941 after three years 10 months. Governor Dewey, then NY County district attorney, pardoned him last August after Alexander D. L. Thiel confessed the crime.
In Albany the U S Supreme Court feud emerges as a major campaign issue in the 1946 governor race. Republican State Chairman Glen R. Bedenkapp hints at backing Associate Judge Stanley Fuld for the Court of Appeals and mocks the court.

A June tornado swept from Windsor River Rouge into Sandwich Ontario and Detroit area, killing at least 17 and injuring more than 100. Debris path stretched across 100 feet with millions in damage, including Fisher housing project damage and several fires. Weather Bureau estimated winds over 250 mph as communities reeled after a 10 minute catastrophe.
