Careys signature eases strain on 57 small city school boards
Governor Carey signed measures to allow 57 small city school districts to restore missing budgets by reclassifying employee Social Security and pension payments. Layoff notices for teachers can be withdrawn as districts regain funds, with the new fiscal year starting next month. Other laws include voter transfer rules for primaries, televising PSC hearings, and no fault insurance extensions.
