William Peter Blatty author of The Exorcist filed a 1.5 million suit in federal court against Edward and Fred Doumani directors of Tropicana Hotel Corp alleging violation of the Securities Act. He claims the company failed to deliver stock certificates after a 500000 investment in 1974 and refused to refund when he sought to back out.
Former City Councilman Robert I. Postel says he will go to court to require the state to place lottery funds in interest bearing banks and to have banks repay interest earned. He spoke after a Manhattan judge lifted an injunction on two proposed special lotteries, the Double-Up and Colossus, following assurances that winning numbers would come only from sold tickets.
Albany reports Comptroller Arthur Levitt will advance New York City 100 million dollars this week to help meet a 250 million dollar repayment to the federal government due Sunday. Total 756 million in federal loans mature this month with 250 million by Sunday and 500 million on June 30. The city faces a 65 million shortfall for Sunday's payment as Washington conditions further loans on budget cuts.
