Parole denied for killer of 25 migrant workers in California
Mass murderer Juan Corona, 50, was deemed an unresponsive risk to the public and not suitable for parole. The California Board of Prison Terms set a maximum three years before his next appearance after a two hour hearing. Corona, who was convicted in 1973 of 25 murders, faced a retrial in 1982 for 23 counts, cost taxpayers over five million dollars, and was described as an unpredictable psychotic with a low frustration threshold.

Senate to act on nationwide drinking age 21
The Senate may vote soon on a measure backed by President Reagan to require a national drinking age of 21. The plan, attached to a highway bill, would withhold federal funds from states not complying and aims for quick action with support from Republicans and backers such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
