Rats May Help Provide Clues To Diabetes Control
Worcester Massachusetts Dr Aldo Rossini Arthur Like and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical School report that manipulating the immune system in BB rats can prevent diabetes. The research suggests potential human strategies including drugs blood transfusions radiation therapy and thymus removal. Early human trials using prednisone are underway with cautious optimism for a future in which diabetes may be preventable.
