Mathews may get HEW post
Dr. F David Mathews president of the University of Alabama, 39, is to be named Secretary of Health Education and Welfare by President Ford. Pending Senate confirmation, he would replace Caspar Weinberger. Mathews, a liberal, has drawn support from liberals and Southern lawmakers and has ties to White House activities including refugee settlement ceremonies.
