Murder Suspect Held in Arizona
Erie County Sheriff Arthur D. Britt said he would fly to Phoenix to bring back Raymond Russell Woodley, 20, an ex-sailor sought for questioning in the slaying of Glenwood tavern owner John Yost May 3. Woodley was arrested in Phoenix Tuesday night after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest based on information from a 28-year-old nurse who was held as a material witness. Yost’s body was found with a bullet in the back inside his tavern about 60 yards from his home, and officials say he was shot during an attempted hold up.

ICKES Says Steelman Real Labor Secretary
Harold L. Ickes argues that Dr. John R. Steelman effectively runs labor policy, while Lewis B. Schwellenbach remains nominal secretary. He recalls Steelman’s influence in organizing the UMW captive mines and criticizes administration handling of coal and railroad strikes. He proposes Perkins or Lewis for Labor Secretary as alternatives.
