Fuel efficient runabout aims 60 to 70 mpg in Buffalo area
Tony Fini, a Frontier High School industrial arts teacher in Hamburg, builds a rear engine runabout from Jeep and VW parts powered by a 16 horsepower garden tractor engine. He uses a belt type snowmobile torque converter and a gearless shifting method to achieve about 50 mph with a 100 mile range. He has applied for a UPI report on his transmission and hopes for a 100 mpg future for 1,000 pound cars.
