Jet crash kills two pilots at Niagara Falls Air Base
At Niagara Falls Air Base an F 101 jet crashed during takeoff in formation with another plane. Both pilots Maj Richard M. Kyle of Williamsville and Maj Edward J. Szatanek of Liverpool died. Kyle was a American Airlines pilot. Szatanek worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. They were both 36 and part of the 107th Fighter Group. The other aircraft returned to land.

Sting Raids Net Major Theft Ring Across Two States
An undercover operation by eight agents using assumed identities led to a two state sweep of raids and arrests near North Attleborough Massachusetts after six months of a phony fencing scheme. About 200000 dollars of stolen goods were bought by the sting team as 92 arrests were expected. State, federal, and local officers joined the operation with busloads of prisoners taken from North Attleborough High School at dawn.
