Ida Hays of La Grande Oregon underwent a May 19 orbital hypertelorism repair at New York University Hospital. The 15 year old’s ten hour operation reduced eye spacing and rebuilt the nose while bone from her hip filled the gap. Her parents and community funded the $6,000 cost plus travel. Ida reports renewed happiness and normalcy, plans a Lake Wallowa camping trip, and says she now laughs freely for the first time in years.
