New York Telephone seeks $889 million rate increase in 1981 tariffs
New York Telephone filed tariffs with the Public Service Commission on May 6 1981 proposing to raise intrastate rates by 889 million dollars. A prior PSC approved supplemental increase would reduce this request once effective. Proposed changes include a 6.20 monthly exchange access line charge, higher local call and coin rates, a 50 cent busy verify fee, and various flat rate, mileage, and Centrex adjustments with hearings expected before any final action in early 1982.
