Weather System Passes Over State Brings Sunshine

A recent weather system moved across the state bringing showers and thunderstorms yesterday. Rain totals reached 0.2 inches, with another 0.2 inches after this morning’s showers. Tonight will be fair with mid 50s lows, followed by warm, partly cloudy conditions tomorrow with temperatures around 80 to 85. Winds SW 5 to 16 mph, 10 percent rain chance through tomorrow. Lakes winds 5 to 15 knots with sunshine overhead. Extended outlook shows Saturday showers then clearing Sunday and Monday.

Heavy quartering winds of 25 mph postponed nearly half the first day schedule of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta on Onondaga Lake. Officials halted unfinished races until 6 p.m after completing fours and pairs. only two freshman eights had been raced.

Arrests rise to nineteen in White House protests

In ongoing demonstrations against Reagan budget cuts, arrests climbed to 19 with seven more arrests reported yesterday. Among those taken into custody was black activist Dick Gregory, per a spokesman for the Community for Creative Non-Violence.

Prime Minister Menachem Begin said he accepted Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s request to grant more time for American diplomacy to resolve Syria’s missile deployment in Lebanon. Habib, the U.S. envoy, is to return soon. the leaders spoke after a six hour summit and signaled “serious solutions” to be realized.

Inmate Stabbing at Brushy Mountain Prison Involves Ray

James Earl Ray, imprisoned for King assassination, was stabbed multiple times in the law library at Brushy Mountain Penitentiary. Four inmates, three Black and one white, were detained. a weapon fashioned from a 12 inch brace was recovered. prison lockdown implemented with no disturbances reported.

Suspect Held 12 Hours in Atlanta Then Freed

An African American man, 23, questioned nearly 12 hours by Atlanta police about the 28 killings of young Black victims denied involvement while claiming to be a prime suspect. He said a polygraph was given, his home and car were searched, and officers seized items including a yellow blanket, a purple robe, fibers, fliers, tape recorder, and briefcase. He invited reporters to a news conference on condition of anonymity.
