Colonial and Eastern Air Lines Complete Merger Transfer
The Colonial Air Lines merger with Eastern Air Lines is completed with transfer of operations to Eastern at Colonial facilities. President Eisenhower approved the merger January 25. Colonial will continue to operate as a division under Eastern, led by Branch Dykes, until integration of personnel and equipment is complete. Eastern plans new Convair 440s and Silver Falcons, with deliveries starting February 1957, to boost intercity service from Syracuse and Colonial routes to Eastern trunk lines.
