Thunderstorms and rain pelted parts of the Midwest early today while the nation began Independence Day with dry mild conditions. Weather officials warned of localized flooding and gusty winds as holiday travelers faced scattered showers across several states.
The extended forecast covers cooler northwest air and threats of severe thunderstorms across the Dakotas Nebraska Minnesota Iowa and Missouri into Wednesday with light rain in the Tennessee Valley and mid Atlantic. Drier air returns Northeast as the cool front passes. New York state will see sun after morning clouds with upper 70s highs and 50s to 60s at night.
