Pentagon urges contractor teamwork on future fighter programs

The Air Force notes that two or more defense firms are forming teams to design and test advanced fighters. Five firms collaborate on the NASP X-30 project, sharing major sections and subcontracting, with Northrop, Lockheed, General Dynamics, Boeing, and McDonnell Douglas leading distinct fuselage and wing components. Both teams will fly prototypes this summer and compile data through year end.

Smith Corona projects loss and dividend cut in Q4

Smith Corona Corp expects a small operating loss and a dividend cut for the fourth quarter ending June 30. The firm cites inventory write-downs and non recurring provisions for major overhead reductions, with 350 layoffs at its Cortlandville plant amid slow sales. The stock closed at 5.375, down 0.875, and the company will issue its report later this month.

Microwave Filter expands by acquiring Niagara Scientific stake

Microwave Filter buys all 34,000 Niagara Scientific shares by issuing 300,000 of its own stock, about 10.7 percent. Niagara Scientific will operate as a subsidiary with its president Carl Fahrenkrug becoming Microwave Filter's VP of corporate development to drive growth and acquisitions. Niagara Scientific employs 22 people. Microwave Filter, 90, reported 1989 sales of 5.8 million and earnings of 418,000, with projections this year of 7.1 million in sales and 490,000 earnings.

Shareholders sue Fleet Norstar over hidden loan losses

Angry investors in Fleet Norstar Financial Group Inc sue in Providence alleging failure to disclose loan problems, inadequate reserves, and overconcentration in speculative real estate. Loans jumped from 398 million to 928 million in Q1, driving a loss since 1974. Fleet stock fell to near 18.62 amid lawsuits and a regulatory probe.

Notice of Proposed Centrex III Tariff for Optional Feature

A proposed tariff filing with the Public Service Commission plans to add an optional Centrex III feature for routing IDDD calls via an alternate IDDD carrier per access code.
