Chapman in New York before Lennon killing discussed by minister
Atlanta notes Reverend Charles McGowan, Chapmans former pastor, said Chapman flew to New York three to four weeks before Lenons murder with an unexplainable drive to kill. He overcame the compulsion initially but later traveled back to New York and carried out the shooting. Chapman, a Columbia High School graduate, was arrested and charged with second degree murder. His defense claims insanity.
