Cayuga County water projects poised for $6 million canal era boost
Nearly $4 million from HUD is earmarked for Cayuga County canal corridor work including a dock in Aurora, Frontenac Park in Union Springs, Cayuga harbor work, waterfront surveys for Montezuma and Brutus, Beacon Bay Marina loans, a canal museum in Port Byron, and a county loan program. Private investment could reach about $6 million. Eligible towns must match funds. Union Springs could receive $246,000 with $102,000 local and $166,000 borrowed. All Cayuga projects are still conceptual with no local action yet. The Cayuga County Water Authority plans a $4 million line along Route 38 from Auburn to Brutus. Springport, Owasco, and Fleming also launch multi million projects. Aurelius eyes lines from Half Acre to Cayuga.
