Snow showers and squalls persist tonight into tomorrow with 6 to 10 inches possible in parts of the region. Arctic air drives subzero wind chills tomorrow afternoon, followed by another cold snap that brings more snow Sunday and Christmas Day.
A cold front strengthening over the Great Lakes moved toward the Appalachians and mid- Atlantic as winter began. Clear skies spread across much of the West on the first official day of winter.
An East system brings heavy snow to Michigan eastern Illinois Ohio and Indiana while a low pressure system tracks from Texas to the Southeast delivering rain to the Gulf Coast and a wintry mix to central Alabama Florida and Georgia. Highs range from teens in the Great Lakes to 70s in Texas with 72 in Brownsville and a low of 17 below in Pellston Michigan.
