SSO Pops bring festive concert with many standout moments
The Syracuse Pops Orchestra delivered a bright Friday concert with helpers and surprises. State Senator John Francisco honored orchestra chairman Gerald C. Groff for the 40th anniversary. Conductor Grant Cooper led a varied program of holiday favorites, highlighted by principal trumpet George Coble and jazz baritone Ronnie Leigh. Leigh's performance from Jingle Bells to Silver Bells impressed, though some balance issues affected the overall sound. The Onondaga County Select Chorus, led by Bruce Campbell, added first-rate vocal work. Cooper steered the evening, singing and dancing as master of ceremonies alongside Stephen Peter in a lively finale.
