Blank votes set record for state
About 164000 New Yorkers did not vote for governor in the November 7 election and nearly half a million abstained for state attorney general. The canvass shows a record rise in blank, void and scattering votes, mostly blank, with explanations ranging from voter confusion to deliberate selective voting. A transit strike threat in New York was averted as nine private bus companies agreed to wage bargaining.
