A weather forecast warned of freezing rain sweeping the Northeast and midsection, with heavy snow expected to bury much of the nation and rain slickening the East. Bitter cold persisted in parts, impacting travel and daily activities.
The forecast covers a broad storm outlook across the United States. Snow is expected from northern Illinois to southern Wisconsin and the southern Great Lakes, with freezing rain in the Northeast. Strong cold air remains in the Rockies and Four Corners, while windy, chilly conditions persist in New York and the Midwest. Temperatures vary from extreme lows in Minnesota to highs in the 70s in the Deep South and parts of Florida.
