Lawrence Moten Moten scored 29 points on 12 of 19 shooting with eight rebounds and four steals. Wallace added 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting and a game high ten rebounds with three blocks. Autry contributed 13 points and nine assists with four rebounds and three turnovers.
Zeke Mershall tops Cornell with 13 points and nine rebounds while Jeff Gaca adds 16 and three assists. Justin Trandwell contributes 12 on five-of-eight shooting as Syracuse maintains a five point edge at 42 37 after Zeke Marshall draws a pair of free throws and Adrian Autry seals the half with a buzzer put back.
Senior center Dave Siock aims to avoid looking over his shoulder as Conrad McRae nears return from suspension. In a 97-65 win, Siock overcame rough first half shooting to finish with 10 points, three rebounds, and two blocks, while Boeheim praises his defense and expects improved rebounding once McRae resumes starting duties.
Syracuse and Cornell traded early leads before the Orange pulled away behind a quick, athletic attack. Wall ace Michael Wallace and M Fon Moten sparked Floyd Autry in support while Cornell's Gaca and Marshall fought hard on the boards and on offense. Cornell finished with 16 and 13 points respectively.
In the Carrier Dome with 3:47 left in the first half, referee Mike Kitts admonished Wallace for hanging his shorts. Wallace, an SA freshman, says the waistwear is comfortable though risky. The Orange trailed Cornell 25-21 at halftime as Boeheim pressed for more rebounds.
The opening night of the 1992-93 college basketball season saw Michigan hold off Rice 75-71 and Seton Hall pull away from Rider 87-74. Chris Webber led Michigan with 20 points while Jerry Walker sparked Seton Hall with 18 points, five assists, and five rebounds.
