Mayor Corcoran spoke at the New York Central depot as 10th Marines of the 0th Marine Tank Battalion left for duty in the Korean conflict. He called the farewell solemn, thanking 22 officers and 461 men, with hundreds of relatives, friends, and veterans in attendance. The ceremony drew 26 mayors from Central New York communities supplying men for the unit.
