Building boom reshapes Sandy Creek and nearby districts
In Syracuse area, 22 districts undertake summer capital projects spurred by state incentive aid. Sandy Creek, serving 1200 students, sees the biggest change in 70 years as Superintendent Testone says renovations will double district square footage and touch every part of the schools. Delays at the State Education Department push costs up and postpone outdoor sports, with many districts facing material and labor shortages while 680 project applications move through the department.
