Bus and Truck Collision Injures Ten on Turnpike

A Greyhound bus with 39 passengers from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh side swiped a steel-laden tractor trailer on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Bedford. At least 10 people were hurt, three seriously and one critically, with the impact tipping the bus and injuring a front-seat rider identified as L. T. Johnston of Long Beach California.

Three Barns Burn In Upstate Farms Region

Police investigated three overnight fires that destroyed two barns in southern Rensselaer County and one in Columbia County. The blazes raised the total barns burned near here since May to eleven.

Home Sheriff Subdues Ber nard Cutler After Shot Incident

Police subdue Bernard Cutler in his Syracuse home after a confrontation with two patrolmen. Cutler threatened officers with a jar of cold cream, knocked a table, fired a shot that struck the floor, and was restrained following a disturbed early morning call about a woman screaming in the 700 block of South Crouse Avenue. Mrs. Cutler alleged abusive behavior and gas lighting. officers planned to take him to the station.

Liverpool GI Rescues Films of Air Strike

Airman 3/C Robert H. Richberg of Liverpool New York risked his life to retrieve films of a major Allied air strike on Pyongyang from a burning reconnaissance plane at a base in Korea. He crawled into the blazing wreckage and recovered film containers despite fire and anti aircraft fire. The pilot survived the crash.

Hurricane warnings along coast as tropical storm nears land

The hurricane warnings cover a 250 mile Atlantic stretch from Fernandina Florida to Georgetown South Carolina as a tropical disturbance moves northwest at about 10 miles per hour. Center lies 110 miles east of St Augustine Florida with winds 80 to 90 mph and a small core of hurricane force winds near the center. Officials urge immediate precautions for Georgia and South Carolina coasts as warnings remain in effect and the storm eyes land.

Live Wire Killed Boy Not Hit Run Driver

Coroner Harry L. Gilmore said six year old Gary Houghton died from an electric shock after climbing a ladder to a live wire near Onondagard at Fairmount Corners. Deputies pursued a motorist belief but evidence showed the child was not struck by a vehicle.

$250000 P O Theft Bared In Reno Chase

Two Texas men Jim Darwood Kennedy 27 and Johnny Edward Watson 26 were captured after a Reno police chase. A car contained about $250000 in cash from a Tehachapi California post office burglary. Kennedy had been released from Texas State Penitentiary last June. Watson is from Big Elm Texas and had escaped from prison August 9.
