A war writer, Treanor, details American troops in Paris, highlighting correspondent work and impressions of the city during military involvement.
A damaged clipping reports a Japanese cruiser sunk during a U S air raid. It notes Japanese troops and mounting activity near Tehans and the Yangtze with indications of limited Japanese penetration along the western edge of their advance.
Allied air forces struck Nazi oil refineries and a tank factory in Austria and Czechoslovakia. Bombers attacked three refineries near Silesia and a plant at Steyr while facing limited Luftwaffe opposition and escort by RAF bombers and bombers from the Liberator group.
Senator Connally argues the United States should acquire bases and island possessions necessary for future defense. He landed in heavy seas and aided survivors including Vern Pugh and Ensigns Welsh Strouse Widell. Martin earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and an air medal.
Large daylight and night raids by B 29s hit Yawata and eastern Honshu while additional formations struck Lao Yao Kaifeng and Lunghai rail hubs. Reports claim 35 enemy fighters destroyed 25 probably destroyed 12 damaged with four U S planes lost. Tokyo said 25 American planes down and 200 airmen captured.
The Office of Defense Transportation announced that July saw a new record in combined ore coal and grain movement on the Great Lakes. U.S. and Canadian ships carried 6,917,938 tons of coal, 15,459,049 tons of iron ore, and 51,000,000 bushels of grain, with iron ore below the 1943 and 1912 highs but totals meeting the navigation season plan.
Count Cario Sforza, a minister without portfolio in the Bonomi government, told a public meeting that Allies should allow Italy to retain its colonies after the war unless other nations surrender theirs to an international administration.
Capt Uume Bert A Cimildore, recently medically discharged from the U S Army Medical Corps, resumes medicine at his home 123 West Fourth Street. He was commissioned in the Mesbank Corps in October and served in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands.
