MISHAWAMKA Ind INS thieves thawed out 5400 in frozen currency from a restaurant deep freeze locker. Owners George Hoffman and Betty Cruivetter said they replaced the money under 200 pounds of meat before leaving on vacation August 4. The meal remained untouched.
Syracuse pioneers were feted during an eight day Centennial observance at a Hotel Syracuse dinner. S. Pliny Towne, the longest serving Herald Journal employee, marks 64 years with the paper on Sept 1 and 87th birthday on Sept 10. M J Thornton has 63 years with Crown Mills in Marcellus. Mae Cole heads customer relations.

Syracuse marks the sixth day of its Centennial celebration with fraternal organizations from Syracuse and Central New York taking the spotlight. The day follows Agricultural Day where about 2,000 Onondaga County farmers joined events at the New York State Fairgrounds. The report notes continued coverage on Page 10.

A new all time high of 31.75 per hundred pounds was paid for live hogs at the Chicago Union Stockyards today, topping the previous 31.50 record set 15 days ago.
