Property-tax breaks extended to more seniors in New York
Gov. Mario Cuomo signed a bill expanding property tax exemptions for seniors on fixed incomes. The measure sets a graduated scale from 45 to 20 percent exemptions based on income over old maximums, allowing more than 125,000 eligible seniors to keep their homes. The same action also protects sole-source drinking water aquifers by restricting hazardous substances in primary recharge areas.
