Property tax breaks extended to more seniors in New York
Governor Mario Cuomo signed a bill extending property tax exemptions for seniors on fixed incomes. The plan creates a graduated income scale for exemptions, expanding eligibility and raising the maximum aid from 20 to 45 percent for certain income bands. The measure, effective immediately, aims to help more of the 1 million senior homeowners. Additionally, Cuomo approved a separate bill to protect sole source drinking water aquifers by restricting hazardous substances in primary groundwater recharge areas.
