Amnesty lists Syria Peru Surinam as rights violators
Amnesty International names Syria Peru and Surinam on a new rights violator list. The report cites mass killings in Syria including 1 000 executed in one day at Tadmur prison in 1980 and 350 executions in Hama in 1981, plus later assaults on Sunni Muslims. Peru and Surinam are cited for killings of opponents tied to land reform and a 1982 Surinam massacre of 15 dissidents.
