Mrs. Julia R. Thiel 93 of 125 Baker Ave died at Crouse Irving Hospital after a brief illness. The Rev. John J. Quigley, 74, of Ireland, died Sunday night at his brother’s home in Corrigeen. He spent 35 years as a Roman Catholic missionary in Uganda and served at St Joseph’s College Freshford Kilkenny since 1951. Services and burial will be tomorrow at the college.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Cardamone ruled the Syracuse Zoning Board of Appeals erred when granting a variance to Hinman-Lewis Memorials Inc to sell cemetery monuments on Oakwood Cemetery property in a Residential B zone. He found the board engaged in spot zoning and acted arbitrarily and capriciously after a neighborhood group funded litigation.
