Hospitals, county to share cleanup of 4000 tons waste
Onondaga County will pay up to 395000 and Community General Hospital will pay several hundred thousand dollars to clean up 4000 tons of medical waste dumped decades ago on the Onondaga Nation off Quarry Road. Waste from Community General and Van Duyn Home Hospital was buried in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The state AG supervised the investigation and the legislature approved the settlement. The waste will be hauled to a licensed landfill and the DEC weighs permitting the Auburn landfill option.
