Seven year old spine tumors removed by microsurgery
In New York City seven year old Jonah Press from Stockholm underwent a six hour microsurgery at NYU Medical Center to remove spinal cord tumors once deemed inoperable. He met Steven LaRocca, a nine year old who earlier received the same experimental treatment and now ambulates with ease. Dr Fred Epstein notes the prognosis is good but not guaranteed. The operation uses Cavitron ultrasonic assistance to liquify tumors while sparing healthy tissue.
