FDA seeks British data in arthritis drug probe
Eli Lilly halted sales of Oraflex after Britain suspended it for 90 days amid 61 deaths there and 11 in the United States. FDA will seek British data on deaths and side effects and review U.S. cases before any further action. Schweiker noted the Safety of Medicines’ caution influenced the decision and urged patients to consult doctors. The drug, benoxaprofen, known as Opren in Britain, has been sold since May in the U.S. as a once daily NSAID.
