Massena Loses Ruling In Municipal Power Fight

A federal panel ruled Niagara Mohawk Power Corp not obligated to transmit power to Massena for a new municipal electric system. The FERC ordered a hearing to show cause why Niagara Mohawk should not be forced to transmit electricity later. Massena seeks to take over town lines serving 16,000 residents and buy power from the Power Authority, but transmission across Niagara Mohawk lines is disputed.

Gas aid sought to halt fuel outflow from Syracuse Hess station

Onondaga County Energy Committee asks Gov. Carey to stop 300000 gallons a month leaving Syracuse after Don's Hess at 758 Erie Boulevard West closes for 90 days of renovation. Amerada Hess has not responded. Committee proposes temporarily relocating fuel to a Mobil station at West Genesee and North Geddes.

Storm knocks out power to 1500 in Skaneateles area

Two outages last night cut service for 1223 customers in Niles and Skaneateles when a 34500 volt line failed after a lightning strike at Miller Bottling Plant and a tree limb hit a 13200 volt feeder at Jewett substation. 350 more lost power in western Skaneateles. Weather remains hot and humid with 70 percent rain chance through tomorrow. July was near normal for rainfall and temperatures at Hancock Airport.
