Bennett appeals prejudice claim over 1999 convictions
Bennett seeks to overturn securities and bank fraud, money laundering and related convictions after a 1999 second trial. He alleges Judge John S. Martin was biased and gave improper juror instructions, and that a sentence increase to 30 years was improper due to his wife Gwen Bennett withholding assets. Prosecutors argue the case was in the correct court with ample evidence. Araujo expects possible remand for resentencing and judge recusal.
