SUNY board approves building a technology college on 80 acres at Marcy near Utica with a $42 million cost. The plan, after 12 years of debate, places the campus in Marcy for upper division engineering, sciences, management, and computer studies, with future schedules to be set.
Senator Harrison A Williams Jr took the stand in federal court in Brooklyn denying any attempt to influence a federal agency for personal gain as prosecutors pressed the Abscam bribery case. He described contact with undercover agents posing as Arab financiers and said associates sought financing for a titanium venture in early 1979.
Albany AP report on the long budget feud between Gov. Hugh Carey and Senate Leader Warren Anderson. With 23 days without a budget, the pair traded harsh words after visits to editorial boards. Fort Erie council voted 6 3 0 to permit gasoline stations to operate around the clock reversing an earlier ban from 1 a m to 7 a m. The move follows strong American traffic drawing motorists to Fort Erie where gas often costs 40 to 45 cents less per gallon. Local residents complain of noise and fumes though business groups say cross border traffic benefits the town.
